The Safavieh Furniture Guide
Find furniture that fits beautifully.
Start with the room and the pieces you already own. We'll help you choose the right scale, spacing and proportions.
The right piece should fit the room-and everything around it.
A few measurements turn guesswork into a room that feels balanced, comfortable and easy to move through.
What are you furnishing?

Build around the way you gather.
Begin with the seating you already have. The right tables, chairs and ottomans should feel connected without crowding conversation or the paths through the room.
Shop Living RoomStart with what you already own.

Give every seat room to settle in.
Chair scale begins with the table you already own. Match seat height to tabletop height, then leave enough width and clearance for guests to sit comfortably.
Shop Dining Room
Let the counter determine the stool.
Measure from the floor to the underside of the counter, then choose a seat that leaves a comfortable gap. The right width matters too—every person needs their own space.
Shop Kitchen
Let the bed set the scale.
The bed is the room’s largest visual anchor. Keep bedside surfaces easy to reach, make the foot-of-bed bench slightly narrower and leave breathing room around every piece.
Shop Bedroom
Make the first piece feel intentional.
Entry furniture should support arrival without narrowing the path. Begin with the depth of the available wall, then check the door swing and walking clearance.
Shop Entryway
Give focus a proper setting.
Set the desk first, then choose seating that matches its height and storage that stays out of the way. Comfortable clearances keep long days at the desk feeling easy.
Shop Home OfficeMake sure it fits all the way home.
Record wall lengths, ceiling height, windows, outlets and the swing of every door.
Now choose the piece.

The questions worth measuring twice.
Leave about 14-18 inches. That keeps the surface within reach while allowing comfortable movement around the seating.
A coffee table should sit close to the sofa-seat height or slightly lower. A side table generally feels best within about 2 inches of the sofa or chair arm.
For a standard 36-inch counter, look for a 24-26-inch seat. For a 40-42-inch bar-height surface, look for a 28-30-inch seat.
Around 36 inches is a useful target when space allows. It gives guests room to pull out a chair and lets someone pass behind them.
Measure the piece, the destination and every part of the delivery route: exterior doors, hallways, stair turns and elevators. For large pieces, compare diagonal depth or height as well.
