The Safavieh Outdoor Guide

Make the most of life outside.

Start with your space and the way you want to use it. We'll help you find the right arrangement, scale and weather-ready materials.

Start with three essentials

A beautiful outdoor room begins with real life.

Choose the space, decide how you want to spend your time and let the weather guide the material.

Begin with your outdoor room

What kind of space are you furnishing?

Make every foot count

Choose one purpose and give it room.

A small space feels generous when the furniture supports one clear activity. Keep the route from the door open and favor pieces that move, stack or tuck away.

02 · Choose for your weather

What does this space face?

Material matters most when it answers the conditions around your home.

Look for finishes that handle heat and ongoing UV exposure, then add covers when the furniture is not in use.

Always check the individual product details and care instructions. “Rattan” and “wicker” can describe different constructions and levels of weather protection.

Three clearances worth keeping

Plan for people—not just furniture.

These starting points help the space work when guests are sitting, serving and moving through it.

14–18″Seating to coffee tableClose enough to reach, with comfortable room for knees and movement.
30–36″Main walking pathKeep the route between the house, seating, dining area and yard open.
About 36″Behind dining chairsPlan with the chairs pulled back so guests can sit and pass comfortably.
03 · Find your outdoor style

Bring your point of view outside.

Style does not change the measurements—it changes how the finished room feels.

04 · Complete the space

The layers that make outside feel like home.

Outdoor living, answered

A few things to know before you settle in.

Measure the usable space after accounting for doors, steps, railings, columns and the routes people use most. Then mark the largest piece with painter’s tape and add the clearances around it.

About 36 inches around the table is a useful starting point for chair pull-back and movement. Allow more along a serving route or a frequently used path.

The answer depends on exposure. Aluminum and resin are easy-care choices around moisture; heavier steel and wood can feel more grounded in wind; teak brings natural durability; protected spaces can support a broader range of woven textures.

Not always. Wicker describes a woven construction, while rattan can refer to a natural material or a rattan-like appearance. Check the product specification and care guidance to confirm whether a piece is made for uncovered weather.

Covers and dry off-season storage can extend the life of most outdoor furniture. Follow the care instructions for the individual material, let wet cushions dry thoroughly and keep wood out of standing water.
